Breast Cancer Survivor Story: Meet Margaret Ann Kinder 

Margaret Ann was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer after doctors detected the tumor during her annual mammogram.

Margaret Ann, a local resident, is a retired teacher. She was able to carry on with her normal life during her treatments and said, “One of the really good things about getting my radiation treatments at the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma, is [the treatment] was done locally and I didn’t have to go to Oklahoma City or Houston. I was able to make a quick trip here and sleep in my own bed at night. It was so nice being close to home.”

Twenty-three years ago, Margaret Ann received “conventional” whole breast radiation therapy at another facility and compared her previous experience to AccuBoost and said, “The first time, I had 35 treatments, lots of burning and so much time was taken. The 10 [AccuBoost] treatments as opposed to 35 is so much easier!” My doctor said, ‘We have an option that is only ten treatments’ and I was all about it! I wanted the latest and greatest!”

When asked about her experience with AccuBoost:

“It was 20-23 minutes in the machine. I really didn’t have any burning. Maybe a small, slight amount but the over the counter ointment took care of it.” “No pain. I didn’t have pain through any of it. It was a little uncomfortable in the machine. Recovery was so fast!”
